Description

A Southern classic, this chicken fried steak is ultra-crispy, tender on the inside, and smothered in a creamy peppered gravy for the ultimate comfort food experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cube steaks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour (for gravy)
  • 2 cups milk (for gravy)
  • Salt and black pepper (for gravy)

Instructions

    • In a bowl, whisk eggs and milk together. In a separate bowl, combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

    • Dredge each steak in flour, dip in egg mixture, then coat again in flour.

    • Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high. Fry steaks until golden brown, about 3–4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.

    • For gravy, melt butter in the skillet. Whisk in flour and cook 1 minute. Slowly add milk, stirring until thickened. Season to taste.

    • Serve steaks hot with generous spoonfuls of gravy.

Notes

  • Use cube steak for best results as it’s already tenderized
  • Let the breading set on the steaks for 5 minutes before frying to improve adhesion
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or biscuits
