Description

Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy is a comforting dish made with seasoned ground beef patties served in a rich mushroom gravy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined and form into 4 oval patties.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Remove the patties and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and sauté until they are golden brown, about 5 minutes. Pour in the beef broth and bring to a simmer.
  4. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Stir the slurry into the mushroom gravy and add soy sauce and thyme. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the gravy thickens.
  5. Return the patties to the skillet, spoon the mushroom gravy over them, and simmer for another 5 minutes to heat through.
  6. Serve warm, ideally with mashed potatoes or rice.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, substitute ground turkey for ground beef.
  • For added flavor, mix in some grated Parmesan cheese into the beef mixture.
  • You can also add a splash of red wine to the gravy for a richer taste.
