Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Sesame seeds and chopped green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, cornstarch, and water to create the sauce. Set aside.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  • Add sliced beef and cook for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
  • Add remaining oil to the skillet. Stir in broccoli florets and cook for about 3-4 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp.
  • Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Return the beef to the skillet and pour the sauce over everything.
  • Stir well to coat beef and broccoli, cooking for 2-3 more minutes until the sauce thickens.
  • Sprinkle with sesame seeds, green onions, and red pepper flakes if desired.
  • Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

  • Beef Tip: For easier slicing, freeze the beef for 15-20 minutes before cutting.
  • Vegetable Variations: Swap broccoli with snap peas, bell peppers, or bok choy.
  • Sauce Sweetness: Adjust the amount of honey based on your preferred sweetness level.
  • Storage: Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • Gluten-Free Option: Use tamari instead of soy sauce to make this dish gluten-free.
