Description

Flaky, buttery, and packed with Mediterranean flavors, these Spinach and Feta Puff Pastry Spirals are the perfect savory snack or appetizer. With a crispy puff pastry shell and a rich, cheesy spinach filling, they offer a delightful combination of textures and flavors in every bite. Quick to prepare and even easier to devour, these pinwheels make a fantastic addition to brunch tables, party platters, or a cozy evening snack. Serve them warm and watch them disappear!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • ½ cup crumbled feta cheese
  • ¼ cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • ½ teaspoon garlic salt
  • A pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
  • 10 ounces frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry

Instructions

  • Prepare the Egg Wash
In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Set aside.

  • Mix the Filling
In another bowl, combine the crumbled feta, grated mozzarella, chopped green onion, garlic salt, and nutmeg.

  • Roll Out the Puff Pastry
On a lightly floured surface, unfold the thawed puff pastry and roll it out slightly to smooth any creases.

  • Assemble the Spirals
Brush the entire surface of the pastry with the egg wash. Evenly spread the cheese mixture over it, leaving a 1-inch border on one short side. Scatter the drained spinach evenly on top.

  • Roll and Slice
Starting from the opposite short side, tightly roll the pastry into a log. Press the edge to seal. Using a sharp knife, cut the log into ½-inch slices.

  • Chill Before Baking
Arrange the slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate for about 15 minutes to help them hold their shape.

  • Bake to Golden Perfection
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Brush the tops of the pinwheels with the remaining egg wash. Bake for 15 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.

  • Serve and Enjoy
Let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • For a crispier texture, bake on a wire rack placed over the baking sheet.
  • To make ahead, assemble the spirals, freeze them on a tray, and bake straight from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
  • Swap mozzarella for Parmesan or goat cheese for a different flavor profile.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in an oven or air fryer to maintain crispiness.
