Description

Grilled Chicken Yakitori Skewers are a delicious and easy-to-make dish featuring marinated chicken thighs grilled to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons mirin (or substitute with rice vinegar and a pinch of sugar)
  • 2 tablespoons sake (or substitute with white wine)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Green onions, cut into 2-inch pieces, for garnish
  • Wooden skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, mirin, sake, brown sugar, sesame oil, ground ginger, and black pepper until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for more flavor.
  3. Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
  4. Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto the soaked skewers, alternating with pieces of green onion.
  5. Place the skewers on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the chicken is cooked through and has nice grill marks.
  6. Remove from the grill and let rest for a couple of minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicy kick, add a teaspoon of sriracha or chili paste to the marinade.
  • Substitute chicken with firm tofu or vegetables like bell peppers and mushrooms for a vegetarian option.
