  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Feel free to experiment with other extracts.
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips Dark or milk chocolate chips can also be used.
For the Salted Caramel Drizzle
  • 1 cup salted caramel sauce Both homemade or store-bought sauces work.

Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • mixing bowls
  • microwave-safe bowl
  • Hand mixer or stand mixer
  • Spatula

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9x13 inch baking dish by lightly greasing or lining with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Pour in the vanilla extract and mix until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt until evenly mixed.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
  6. Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips using a spatula.
  7. Spread the cookie dough evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. While the bars are baking, melt the salted caramel sauce in a microwave-safe bowl.
  10. Once the bars are out of the oven and slightly cooled (about 10-15 minutes), drizzle the warm caramel sauce over the top.
  11. Allow the cookie bars to cool completely before slicing into squares or rectangles.
