Ingredients

Tea Base
  • 1 cup Dried Hibiscus Petals Provides a tart, floral flavor and vibrant color; look for petals that are vibrant with no dark spots.
  • 1-2 slices Fresh Ginger Adds warmth and spiciness; slice thinly to avoid overpowering the tea.
  • 4 cups Water Essential for steeping; use for optimal results.
Sweetening
  • Honey or Maple Syrup Balances the tartness of hibiscus; adjust sweetness to taste based on your preference.
Garnishing
  • Lime Wheels Introduces refreshing citrus notes and enhances the presentation; add just before serving for best flavor.

Equipment

  • Pot
  • Fine Mesh Strainer
  • Pitcher

Method

Tea Preparation
  1. Begin by pouring 4 cups of clean water into a pot and place it over medium-high heat. Allow the water to come to a rolling boil, which should take about 5–7 minutes.
  2. Carefully add 1 cup of dried hibiscus petals and 1–2 thin slices of fresh ginger to the boiling water. Cover the pot with a lid and reduce the heat to low. Allow the mixture to steep for 15–20 minutes.
  3. After steeping, remove the pot from the heat and uncover it. Stir in your choice of sweetener, such as honey or maple syrup, tasting as you go to achieve your desired sweetness.
  4. Set a fine mesh strainer over a pitcher and pour the steeped tea through it to remove the solids. Discard the hibiscus petals and ginger slices.
  5. To cool the tea down quickly, you can either refrigerate the pitcher for about an hour or pour the strained tea over ice in individual glasses.
  6. Once chilled, fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the Hibiscus Ginger Iced Tea over them. Garnish each glass with fresh lime wheels.
