Ingredients
  

For the Dough
  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour
  • 2 tbsp Cocoa Powder Use unsweetened for best results
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 2.25 tsp Active Dry Yeast
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup Warm Milk Between 105–115°F
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter Melted or use alternative for dairy-free
  • 1 large Egg Or 1 flax egg for vegan
  • 1-2 tsp Red Food Coloring Can substitute with beet powder
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
For the Filling
  • 2 tbsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar Pack it for best results
For the Cream Cheese Frosting
  • 8 oz Cream Cheese Use vegan alternative if desired
  • 2 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Milk Use plant-based milk if needed
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Warm the milk to between 105–115°F and stir in the active dry yeast; let sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, food coloring, and vanilla; stir to form a rough dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
  4. Roll the risen dough into a 12x9 inch rectangle, spread butter, sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon, and roll tightly into a log. Cut into 8-12 rolls.
  5. Arrange rolls in a greased baking dish and cover; let rise for another 30 minutes until puffy.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F and bake rolls for 20-25 minutes until light golden brown.
  7. While baking, prepare frosting by blending cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  8. Drizzle frosting over warm rolls as soon as they come out of the oven, and serve warm.
