Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • ½ cup red and blue sprinkles for decoration
  • ½ cup white frosting store-bought or homemade

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter mixture and mix until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Spread the cookie dough evenly into the prepared baking pan. Use a spatula to smooth the top.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cookie bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Once cooled, spread the white frosting evenly over the top and sprinkle with red and blue sprinkles.
  10. Cut into squares and serve.
