Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare three round cake pans by greasing them with butter or lining them with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well blended.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly into three separate bowls. To one bowl, add melted chocolate; into another, stir in pureed strawberries; leave the third bowl plain.
- Pour each flavored batter into its prepared cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Once baked, let the layers cool for 10 minutes on a wire rack, then turn them out to cool completely.
- Spread a layer of cream cheese frosting on the chocolate layer, stack the strawberry layer next, followed by the vanilla layer.
- Frost the sides and top of the cake, and decorate with fresh strawberries or chocolate shavings if desired.
