  • 1/3 cup Cornstarch thickens the custard, ensuring a smooth texture.

Method
 

Prepare the Caramel
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, water, and a pinch of salt over medium heat. Cook without stirring until golden brown, about 8-10 minutes. Quickly pour into a loaf pan and let it cool.
Sauté the Apples
  1. Melt vegan butter in a skillet over medium heat, add diced apples and cinnamon. Sauté for 5 to 7 minutes until tender.
Make the Custard
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Whisk almond milk, maple syrup, sugar, cornstarch in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened, about 5 minutes. Fold in sautéed apples.
Combine & Bake
  1. Pour apple-custard mixture over the caramel in the loaf pan. Place in a larger baking dish filled with hot water and bake for about 40 minutes, until set.
Cool and Refrigerate
  1. Let flan cool at room temperature for 30 minutes. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
Serve Your Flan
  1. Run a knife around the edges and invert onto a serving plate. Slice and serve chilled.
