Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water about 110°F
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 8 ounces hot Italian sausage casing removed
  • 4 ounces feta cheese crumbled
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Method

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. While the dough is rising, cook the hot sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat and set aside.
  5. Preheat your oven to 475°F. Roll out the risen dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness and shape. Transfer to a pizza stone or baking sheet.
  6. Spread the cooked sausage evenly over the dough. Sprinkle crumbled feta and shredded mozzarella on top.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
  8. Once out of the oven, drizzle honey over the pizza and sprinkle with red pepper flakes if using. Garnish with fresh basil leaves.
  9. Slice and serve hot.
