Ingredients

For the Churro Dough:
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup + 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1 large egg
For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon powder

Method

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine water, butter, salt, and sugar. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and stir in the flour until the dough forms a smooth ball.
  2. Incorporate the Egg: Let the dough cool slightly before mixing in vanilla essence and the egg until fully combined. The dough should be smooth and pipeable.
  3. Pipe and Fry: Transfer the dough to a piping bag with a star tip. Heat oil in a pan to 375°F (190°C). Pipe strips of dough directly into the oil, cutting with scissors if needed.
  4. Cook Until Golden: Fry churros for 2-3 minutes per side until they are crispy and golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  5. Coat in Cinnamon Sugar: While still warm, roll the churros in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon until fully coated.
  6. Serve and Enjoy: Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce, such as chocolate or caramel.

Notes

    • For extra crispy churros, ensure the oil stays at the correct temperature while frying.
    • If the dough is too thick to pipe, let it rest for a few minutes before trying again.
    • Churros taste best when served fresh, but they can be reheated in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for a few minutes.
    • Use a slotted spoon to carefully turn churros while frying to ensure even browning.
