Preparation Steps
- Soak 1 cup of bulgur wheat in 2 cups of boiling water for about 10 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 pounds of ground beef and lamb (if using), spices, shredded onion, and soaked bulgur.
- Heat a skillet and cook 1 pound of ground beef until browned. Add ⅓ cup of pine nuts and cook for an additional minute.
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease the baking dish with half of the melted ghee. Layer the meat and pine nut mixture as instructed.
- Score the top in a diamond pattern and brush with the remaining ghee before baking.
- Bake for 30 minutes, then switch to broil for 3 minutes to achieve a crispy finish.
- Let cool slightly before serving, and cut into diamond-shaped pieces.
