Step-by-Step Instructions for Quick Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry
  1. In a medium bowl, combine 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water, stirring until smooth. Add dark soy sauce, light soy sauce, sugar, Chinese cooking wine, and Chinese five spice powder. Mix well and set aside to thicken slightly while prepping other ingredients.
  2. Thinly slice your choice of beef against the grain. Toss with 2 tablespoons of prepared sauce to flavor and tenderize, and let marinate for about 10 minutes.
  3. Preheat a skillet or wok over high heat. Add vegetable oil and swirl to coat. Once shimmering, sear marinated beef in a single layer for about 1 minute until browned.
  4. Stir in minced garlic and ginger into the skillet with the beef, cooking for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Pour the remaining sauce into the skillet along with a splash of water. Stir quickly to combine, and allow to simmer for about 1 minute.
  6. Add pre-cooked broccoli florets to the pan once the sauce starts to bubble. Stir-fry for approximately 1 minute until broccoli is heated through and coated in sauce.
  7. Remove from heat and serve the stir fry over rice or noodles, optionally sprinkling sesame seeds on top.
