- In a large saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of light corn syrup over medium heat. Stir continuously until the mixture comes to a boil and the sugar dissolves completely, about 2-3 minutes.

- Add 6 cups of crisp rice cereal to the peanut butter mixture, folding gently to ensure every piece is coated. Transfer to a greased 13x9 inch pan and press down firmly.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine 1 cup of butterscotch chips, 1 cup of semisweet chocolate chips, and 2 tablespoons of shortening. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, stir, and repeat until smooth.
- Pour the melted mixture over the pressed cereal base, spreading it evenly. Allow bars to cool at room temperature.
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, then cut into squares.
