Ingredients
  

For the mozzarella sticks:
  • 10 mozzarella string cheese sticks cut in half
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 ½ cups panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray or olive oil spray
For serving:
  • Marinara sauce ranch dressing, or your favorite dipping sauce

Method
 

  1. Prepare the Breading Station
  2. In one bowl, place the flour.
  3. In a second bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.
  4. In a third bowl, mix panko breadcrumbs, Italian breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Coat the Cheese Sticks
  6. Roll each mozzarella stick in flour, shaking off excess.
  7. Dip in the egg mixture, ensuring full coverage.
  8. Coat in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  9. For extra crispiness, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps for a second coating.
  10. Freeze the Mozzarella Sticks
  11. Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a parchment-lined tray and freeze for at least 30 minutes, or until solid.
  12. Air Fry the Mozzarella Sticks
  13. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  14. Lightly spray the frozen mozzarella sticks with cooking spray.
  15. Arrange in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring space between each stick.
  16. Cook for 6-8 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  17. Serve Immediately
  18. Remove from the air fryer and serve hot with marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Freezing before cooking is essential to prevent the cheese from melting too quickly.
  • Double breading ensures a thicker, crispier crust.
