Ingredients

For the Ground Beef Filling:
  • 1/2 onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
For the Biscuit Topping:
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter cubed
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley optional
For Garlic Butter Brushing (optional):
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp chopped parsley

Method

  1. Preheat oven: Set oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. Make the beef filling: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned. Add onion and garlic, sautéing until soft. Stir in paprika, thyme, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, and broth. Simmer for 5 minutes until thickened. Stir in shredded cheese. Transfer to the prepared baking dish.
  3. Make biscuit dough: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, garlic powder, and salt. Cut in butter with a pastry cutter or fork until crumbly. Stir in cheese and milk until just combined—do not overmix.
  4. Top and bake: Drop spoonfuls of the biscuit dough over the beef filling. Spread lightly to cover most of the surface. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until biscuits are golden brown.
  5. Brush and serve: Mix garlic butter ingredients and brush over the warm biscuits. Let sit for 5 minutes, then serve warm

Notes

  • You can add frozen mixed veggies to the beef layer for extra heartiness.
  • Swap ground beef for turkey or sausage if preferred.
  • Make it spicy with a dash of hot sauce or chopped jalapeños in the meat layer.
  • Leftovers reheat beautifully in the oven or air fryer.
