Ingredients

  • 6 slices of white or brioche bread
  • 4 slices of ham
  • 4 slices of turkey
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Raspberry or strawberry jam for dipping
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Assemble the Sandwiches
  2. Lay out the bread slices. Spread a thin layer of mustard or mayo on one side of each slice if desired.
  3. Add one slice of Swiss cheese, followed by 1–2 slices of ham and turkey, and top with another slice of cheese.
  4. Place the second slice of bread on top to form a sandwich.
  5. Prepare the Batter
  6. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and flour until smooth. Add a pinch of salt and pepper for seasoning.
  7. Dip the Sandwiches
  8. Dip each sandwich into the batter, coating both sides evenly. Let any excess batter drip off.
  9. Cook the Sandwiches
  10. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter.
  11. Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and the cheese has melted. Add more butter as needed for additional sandwiches.
  12. Serve
  13. Transfer the sandwiches to a plate. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with a side of raspberry or strawberry jam for dipping.

Notes

    • Bread Choice: Use sturdy bread like brioche or challah to prevent the sandwich from falling apart.
    • Customizable Fillings: Swap out the ham and turkey for roast beef or smoked chicken for a twist.
    • Cooking Tip: Keep the heat at medium to ensure the bread doesn’t burn while the cheese melts.
    • Make Ahead: You can assemble the sandwiches a few hours in advance and cook them just before serving.
    • Leftovers: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in a skillet or oven to restore the crispiness.
